Funny looking and smelling residue on your walls doesn't always mean you have mold. If you have white residue on your walls this may not be considered mold. White stuff on walls is actually called efflorescence, which is left on walls that have contained water at sometime in the past. The white residue is from the materials in the water after it has evaporated. Mold, however, is created when water remains in your walls and the fungus grows directly from the moisture still existing. Both are problems, however, mold is a much more serious problem. You can wipe off Efflorescence, but you should call a mold professional immediately if you believe its mold.
