Category: Pest-Control - Topic: Bed Bug Detection

Bed bugs do appear with quite a high frequency around most of the United States. The rate of appearance has risen in recent years. Bed bugs can appear in any socioeconomic stratum of society, and, contrary to rumors, filth and uncleanliness is not associated. Increases in international travel and immigration have most likely contributed highly to this situation.

Bed bugs are tiny nocturnal insects which feed on human blood at night. The body of an adult bug is around the size of a sunflour seed. Similar to ticks, after they feed they are engorged with blood and appear fat and round. After feeding they leave the host with itchy red welts which may be associated with an allergic reaction.

A musty or sweet odor in a room might possibly portend the presense of bed bugs. Inspect the linen and furniture for actively crawling bed bugs, as well as blood stains on sheets. Contact a professional exterminator for advise on how to detect and treat an infestation with bed bugs.
