Category: Foundation - Topic: Foundation Cracking Small Vs Large Cracks
Minor foundation cracks can be fixed and are usually caused when the house begins to "settle down" on its foundation. To fix the foundation cracks they have to be sealed. To repair the crack, first make a bit large crack with a chisel that's about 1/2" in deep. Fill the crack with insulation to keep moisture from finding your internal walls. After the insulation has been placed add cement (in 1/2" layers). Then using a tool called a trowel, feather the cement then allow the cement to dry completely. If you have very large foundation cracks of more than 1" deep called a structural foundation professional or your builder immediately. The larger cracks need to be looked at immediately so there isn't more damage done to your home.
