Category: Foundation - Topic: Foundation Cracks Overview

Protecting your home from foundation cracks and shifts is an important step to securing the value of your home. Walking around your house and looking at the foundation on a monthly basis is an easy way to find those foundation cracks. When looking for cracks or shifts, note hairline cracks as well as larger cracks in your foundation. Cracks more than 1/2" need to be handled by a professional as these could be problematic over the long term. Cracks that are only hairline should be noted and continually monitored. Often these foundation cracks can be fixed using mortar, cement or other compounds that clear the crack and re-secure your entire foundation.
