Category: Foundation - Topic: Humidity In Basement Detecting And Removing Moisture
Basement humidity can be a serious issue for many homes. Humidity is caused when moisture is naturally created from the basements depth and when a basement leak exists. You can expect that in most basements there will be some moisture. If significant moisture exists, you may begin to notice a "white film" or mold/mildew growing in basement. To detect mold you may be able to find it in dark corners, smell it, or find discoloration along the edges of your basement walls. If you detect a white film, this is nearly the left-over elements (residue) from the water that has evaporated (elements like mercury). The white film can be removed with a cloth. If discoloration is occurring, you find what looks to be mold, or strong musty smells exist calling a foundation professional may is a much better choice. High amounts of basement moisture can be severely damaging to your household foundation and your family's health and well-being.
