A major part of your yard's maintenance is preparation for the changing seasons. When preparing your lawn for winter, there are a few key steps you should take to save time and money, and prepare your yard for when the sunshine returns. Even if the leaves haven't started falling yet, clean out the gutter and get ready for more. Gutters will catch tons of leaves throughout the winter, and hold heavy water that can pull down your entire gutter system. Winterizing your sprinklers is an easy task that can save you up to $1000. If water isn't drained completely from the system, pipes will freeze and crack, ruining the system. Raking, or mulching your leaves will keep them from choking out the grass beneath, and lawn aeration will help air, water and fertilizer seep into the soil in your yard. Fertilizing is also important and giving your yard a round of fertilizer in the off season will help it continue to grow and prepare for its debut next summer.
