Category: Building-Remodeling - Topic: Apply Construction Mastic Adhesive
There are many adhesives out there. A lot of them sometimes don’t always work. Cellulose adhesive may be best for certain objects but construction mastic adhesive is really meant for certain things: ceiling, wall and tile floors. Construction mastic adhesive can be even used for more things like plywood, asphalt, fabric and leather. This adhesive is very serious. It is usually used by professionals in the construction world. There is a simple and easy way to do this without being intimidated.
First things first, clean the area that you are planning to bond. Normally, you should clear wood of paint as well as varnish. If cement is present then completely clear the area of dirt. At this point apply the construction mastic adhesive to an appropriate stick or notched trowel. Don’t be nervous; just add as much as you think is needed. Now put the object in clamps. Leave it there for a whole day. You may want to move it but don’t. Just leave it. It takes that long for it to really take any effect. Now just clean out any left over construction mastic adhesive with mineral spirits or turpentine. Make sure that you have any appropriate safety materials when doing this process.
After leaving the adhesive for about a day and a half carefully move your object safely and the bond should hold. When removing excess adhesive always dispose of it in proper way. The adhesive itself should have instructions on proper ways to dispose of your left over product. Most hardware stores have a local expert that can give you extra instructions that you may need. I would recommend this because construction mastic adhesive can be a little more heavy duty than a cellulose adhesive.
