Category: Concrete - Topic: Adhere Stone Rock Cement Driveway

Over time driveways can deteriorate like anything else. They can begin to crack and then those cracks turn into huge openings. You may start to see weeds sprout out of areas you never wanted them to before. Fear not though because turning your old, cracked driveway into something you are definitely going to want to show off not only to your friends and family, but the whole neighborhood, can be done easier than you think.

This process will take some time and labor but once done you will be very happy with the end result. First thing is to go to your local hardware store and consult your local expert on supplies and the process. Once that is done, and you have all that you need, start by matching the layer of stone or rock that you have to the level of your garage floor. Sometimes you may need to build up the lip of the concrete to get a good even match (using either concrete or asphalt). After this is achieved you may begin laying out your borders so that you can guide the rest of your driveway. Use string or wooden planks to do this and then put rock or stone down to your preference. Now use construction adhesive to lay the first row of stone/rock as well as the borders so that they won't move when putting down the rest of the surface. When putting in the stone/rock start at the top of the driveway and go towards the street. Once done you can now wet and compact the stone/rock going in straight lines working across the driveway. The best tool for this next task is to clean the surface with a leaf blower to get every little thing out.

Now grout can hold rock and stone together so avoid using it yet. Once the rock and stone have been put out; then you may use the appropriate epoxy grout. Fill in all the joints between the stone and rock. Make sure there is no standing water where you are filling the joints. You will need patience for this next part. It will take about 24 hours for everything to adhere. Hopefully no rain is in the weather report either. Mix all of your grout, epoxies in a mixer with a small amount of lightly sprayed water. Now add the sand and mix away while spraying a light amount of water again. Put into a wheel barrel. Pour grout onto rock and stone and move it into the joints using a squeegee. Remove excess grout using this squeegee, as well as excess sand by adding another batch of grout. Wait about 6-12 hours and you will have a nice, new driveway.
