Insulation systems control moisture, reduce the movement of heat and assure proper ventilation in your home. Attic insulation is often overlooked, but shouldn't be- it contributes to the quality of your air, the price of your energy bills, and your impact on the environment. An insulation contractor can determine how much and what kind of insulation you need. There are four types of insulation typically used in attics. Fiberglass insulation is usually yellow or pink and looks like cotton candy. Spray foam insulation looks like foam that was once liquid but has solidified in the cracks. Standard foam insulation is cut into strips and laid in between the rafters to insulate the area and allow ventilation between the cracks. Environmentally friendly cellulose insulation, made from recycled newspaper that is shredded, packed into strips and treated in fire retardant, is the latest in insulation and threatens to replace fiberglass.
