Category: Waterproofing - Topic: Basement Floor Leaking
If you notice water pushing up though your basement floor after prolonged periods of rain, your house may be located over an area with a high water table. Torrential rains cause the water table under your house to rise higher than the level of your basement and subsequently work its way through cracks in the concrete floor. Due to the hydrostatic pressure that is created by columns of water, sealing the defects in the basement floor will probably not be a permanent solution.
If you install or have a properly functioning drain and sump pump system,
you may be able to solve the problem. Make sure that your discharge water is draining at a great enough distance from your house that it is not returning to your basement and recreating your problem. Also, your down spouts should be positioned to drain away from your house.
Check with a local basement waterproofing contractor to come out and take a look at your basement.
