Category: Interior-Decorating - Topic: Apply Decals To Furniture

The best way to turn some of your wonderful wood furniture from drab to interesting is to add decals. Decals, or decoupage, can make your furniture more stylized with a personal touch. This is not only limited to living room furniture; but also your kitchen or bedroom furniture. There are many different styles of decals out there like Pennsylvania Dutch. Normally you can go to the hardware store; but, for this I would suggest you head to your craft and art supply store for more of a variety.

Begin by cleaning the area that you want to apply your decal. Make sure you clean it pretty well including wax and dirt. Now start to soak the decal in warm water. The paper on the back of the decal should start to come off. Do not remove the paper until later. Now apply the decal to the area that you want it to be. Smooth it on gently. Now you can remove the paper on the back of the decal. Peel it off gently as well. If the decal goes on un-even, or is not the area you really wanted it, just reapply it by peeling it off slowly. Re soak the decal in warm water and place it how you would want it on your furniture. Removing an old decal that is dry can be easy as well. They sell special decal-removing strips that you soak in warm water, and then place over the old decal. The last thing to do once the decals have been properly placed is to seal the surface with a varnish. This will protect the area and the decal over time. Just remember to apply the varnish as is recommended on the instructions and to avoid any contact with your eyes.
