Category: Interior-Decorating - Topic: Apply Gel Stain To Wood
When someone decides to add a different effect to their wood furniture there are many options available out there. Some people can use an oil based stain which can make the wood have a kind of antique look to it. Then there are gel stains that can be used for more of a touch-up on already stained furniture. Gel stains can add an effect of dyes and pigments for a deeper color.
The process is fairly easy. The two things you will need besides your piece of wood furniture is the gel stain itself and a 100 percent cotton rag. Apply the gel stain to your cloth. Read the instructions on your gel stain to regulate the amount to put on your cloth. You will have to probably put multiple coats on later so dont use all of your gel stain on the first coat. Gently and smoothly rub the gel stain along the grain but only until the color is even. Vary the pressure on the gel stain to change the color. Rub harder for a light color and lightly for a dark color. If you truly want a darker color add three to four coats. The stain will take about a few hours to dry. Make sure the area that you are doing this has a very well ventilated area. Sometimes products like stains can have a chemical aroma. A well ventilated area will also make it easier for your wood furniture to dry. If you think that the aroma may get to you use a mouth mask to cover your nose and mouth. It would be recommended to use gloves when applying the gel stain to avoid any contact to your skin. If any does come in contact with your skin immediately wash your hands and read instructions on what to do next.
