The first things you'll want to consider are color choice and theme. Primary colors are a good middle ground for kids and adults, and a theme can be fun to match with window coverings, a bedspread, furniture and accessories. But beware- there' a big difference between 10 and 13, and although a tea party theme sounds great right now, your daughter will be way to “big” for that idea in a few short years. Instead of princess and dinosaur themes, you may want to go with something more broad- like a safari or garden theme. If you choose a basic theme, you can coordinate the accessories- like bedspreads, wall hangings and headboard covers- to reflect the current interest of your child, without having to repaint the room.
