Recessed lighting can be removed from ceilings however, if you plan on working with your ceiling it is very important that when the lighting is removed the correct procedures are taken so the space your lighting was in, can be repaired and repainted. If you are removing your recessed lighting, it may also be a good idea to place the new electrical boxes in the space where the old boxes were. Making this a small parameter in your remodel will allow for new fixtures to be easily placed throughout your ceiling space.
