Measuring for your new windows should only be done by a professional. If your windows aren't measured correctly and precisely the windows will not fit, will leak and cause serious problems. Always have the installer measure your windows and make sure there is a measuring clause in your contract that says if the windows aren't measured correctly, the window company will pay for the replacement windows. Again, don't ever measure windows yourself unless you're a professional and are doing the entire project on your own.
