Category: Basement-Refinishing - Topic: Basement Remodeling Choosing Install Order
When refinishing your basement there are many timing decisions you'll have to make. Installing the flooring/carpet should happen near the end of the remodeling process. Waiting to install the carpet will ensure nothing from the remodel gets on the carpet and the carpet fibers aren't torn or scratched. When you do decide to install the carpet, it's important that openings are left below the flooring and cabinets. When you hang the doors, at least a 3/8" opening should be left so that the carpet trims can be cut. Also if you are installing cabinets or floor shelving, if possible, try and leave a 3/8" space as well. This will not only protect your carpet, but also will protect your cabinets an shelving from water that may get in the basement If this isn't possible cabinets could be installed after the carpet/flooring is laid.
