If you have a drywall finished basement with a stipple looking appearance, you will need to use a drywall trowel and resurface the drywall.

Begin by knocking off the more prominent spots and ridges and then apply a light coat of drywall mud over the walls. If this gives you a preferable appearance then be happy you did not have to change out the drywall completely or cover the wall with paneling or another finishing material.
