Category: Chimney - Topic: Chimney Cleaning Working With Muriatic Acid

If you are planning on a re-roof, it may be a good time to clean your chimney. Cleaning your chimney involves working with toxic chemicals. Unless you are familiar with mixing toxic solutions you may want to hire a chimney professional. If you are experienced and want to tackle the task yourself, you'll need to purchase muriatic acid and adhesive to apply to the brick and mortar before beginning. Once the adhesive is applied, you need to dilute the acid with water (1:25 ratio). Make sure the toxic chemicals are poured in the water and not the water into the muriatic acid.. You'll notice the solution is working after you have applied it and it is bubbling and holding consistency. Once the cleaning is completed, make sure to flush out with a godo amount of water. When working with a chemical like muriatic acid, make sure to wear gloves, goggles, and clothing to cover every part of your body.
