Category: Garden - Topic: Add Oil To Lawnmowers
People often don't realize that their lawnmower is used more than any other equipment in the yard. Seasons come and go; leaves only fall mainly one time of the year. Grass is constantly growing. A lawn's grass is more maintained than any other part of the lawn. With that said; a person must keep their lawnmower in the best shape as possible. The main focus of doing so must be the oil inside of a lawnmower.
This is a very simple procedure which only really requires an oil rag and a container to catch used oil. Seeing as there are so many different brands of lawnmowers out there; it is best to always consult your owner's manual. Lawnmowers most often take an SAE 30W type of oil, but that can change with how often the lawnmower is used and how old it is, so always consult your owners manual. Once you have established what kind of oil is needed, and have purchased it, try and siphon the gas out of the tank. This is very important because you want to avoid any gas getting on the lawnmower. If you do not want to siphon the gas, and are very hesitant to do so, trying mowing the lawn till all the gas is gone. After doing so turn the lawnmower on its side and pull out the spark-plug wire. Always make sure the spark-plug wire doesn't touch the spark-plug so as to avoid any accidents.
All the while you are doing this make sure your lawnmower is turned off. Find the dipstick and remove it. Slowly turn the lawnmower on its side making sure your container is under the oil container to catch any oil coming out. Moving the lawnmower to its normal position, add oil and check the dipstick to ensure it is at the right amount. After putting the dipstick back, and re-attaching the spark-plug wire, turn on the lawnmower for about 30 seconds. Turning off the lawnmower, you may now re-check the dipstick. Some lawnmowers have the oil container on its side or bottom; if so, leave the lawnmower in its normal position, and drain the oil into the container that way. Avoid as much as possible turning the lawnmower completely over or having the spark plug facing down. This may ruin the air filter by having oil drain into it. Only way to fix this situation if it happens is to replace the air filter all together.
