Category: Garden - Topic: Apply Fungicides To My Plants

If you have plants that get signs of cedar-apple rust, black spots, leaf spots or botrytis blight you may have to use fungicides. Most of the time you have seen somebody spraying specialized plants or normal scrubs; that is fungicide being used. For this task you will be using a pressurized garden sprayer.

Test the sprayer first by filling it with water. Then pump the sprayer and see if the nozzle at the tip is not clogged. Just remember to unscrew the lid slightly and the pressure will release. Take off the lid and keep the water inside. Fungicide can be purchased at most garden specialty stores. Read the instructions to make sure you are putting in the right amount for your specified plant. Mix the specified amount with the left over water and see how much room is left inside. Put only enough more water in to even out the mixture. The top then can go back on, just don't cross the threads, and make sure it is on as tight as can be. Increase the pressure to the tank and begin spraying the plants.

Just remember to wear protective clothing like safety goggles, respirator, neoprene gloves and long sleeves. Now be sure that when you spray the plants to cover the leaves from top to bottom. Moisture is key to having the fungicide work properly. Always empty out the tank when finished. Never leave any fungicide inside. Just clean the tank over a dirt area and avoid cleaning it onto any concrete or in a sink. Cleaning the tank may only take three washes. Don't dump the water when you clean it. Spray the water out of the nozzle tip and away from anybody.
