Fig trees are easy to grow and care for if you follow a few guidelines. When pruning, bear in mind what shape you would like the plant to assume at adulthood. A compact, upright fig plant that is more tree-like, should be pruned
more on the lower branches. For a well-rounded plant, allow the lower branches and leaves to develop and grow.
If you find bare branches that appear to have life in them, leave them
alone and leaves will eventually grow. The loss of lowest leaves on the plant is a natural process caused by several reasons- fig trees do not like to be moved
do not like too little light, excessive water or draught conditions.
Fig trees like a sunny location, and to be watered well, but do not repeat watering if the ground is still wet. Year round fertilizations is helpful with an all-purpose
fertilizer.
