Do you have an area around your house that does not get too much sunlight- well there are flowering plants that would grow well in the shade. One example is the Begonias, which grows well in the shade. The two types of Begonias, tuberous and fibrous, are usually available at your local greenhouses in spring.

Other flowering annual flowering plants easily grown in a shady area are coleus, impatiens, lobelia, and others- ask your local nursery. The list of perennials is also long but hosta, japanese anenome, and lily of the valley can be grown in the shade. Ask your local nursery for advise on what plants you should choose to grow in your shady areas.
