Spirea branches make good starts, but there is a best way to do it. If you can get this year's new growth spirea then obtain around 6-8 inch shafts; cut the shafts in such a way that the top is around one-fourth inch above the highest bud and the bottom around one-half inch below the lowest bud. The cutting shafts can then be planted outdoors in small 2-4 inch pots to establish roots. After the roots start to grow you can transplant them in your garden.
