Category: Paint-Painting - Topic: Apply Oil Based Stain To Wood
Sometimes when people have such things as wood furniture there are certain ways to make it look better then it already is. There are many ways to do this; but putting oil stained look can be done easily. It makes the grain and the color seem more defined. Most often these stains make a film of color on top of the wood making an effect of a natural wood color.
Begin by finding the proper oil based stain at your local hardware store. There are many kinds out there but just consult your hardware worker on which one is best for you. It may come down to what kind of tint of stain you want your piece of furniture to have. Either way, pick out your choice of oil based stain, and a couple of foam sponges.
Prep your piece of furniture by clearing everything underneath it. Read instructions if your oil based stain recommends that you use gloves or a mask. Dip your small foam sponge or pad into the stain and apply it. Make sure to go in a pattern of going along the grain. Take your time when reaching each area. Once you are done with going along the grain you can go in the other directions. You can wipe in the opposite direction or diagonally. Now just leave the piece of furniture alone. Leave it to dry for a very decent amount of time. Every stain may be different so read the instructions on a time period for it to dry. Take the drying-time that they have recommended and add a little more time to that to make sure. At this point wipe the stain as best as possible using paint thinner. Then add a second coat of the stain. Let that dry and you have a new piece of furniture.
