If done correctly, you can paint over wallpaper as long as the wallpaper is adhering to the wall very well and there aren't air pockets in the wallpaper. To paint over wallpaper you need to use the highest quality primer. Also make sure that the paint you use is light and doesn't have very thick textures. If the paint is, "heavy" in a short period of time, the wallpaper will begin to fall off the wall and cause a much bigger problem than when you had that ugly and old wallpaper. In addition to purchasing high quality primer and lightly textures paint (or no texture at all) talk to your local painting stores. They may be able to cost effectively remove the wallpaper and paint your home. If this is done you won't have to worry about the wallpaper coming off the wall.
