Category: Plumbing - Topic: Fixing Water Drainage Around Washer
Washing machine and drain backups are a very common problem for many people. Often the drain will work, however, the drain will work slowly and often cause a mess. There are a few possible explanations to this problem. Ultimately, a plumber will have to be called to address the issue.
1. The drain could have partial blockage. Washing machines can occasionally dump a bit of lint. This lint, over time, will create the partial blockage. The blockage can also be caused from another appliance or fixture that is tied to the same plumbing line as the washing machine. More often than not, this is the problem. It can be easily remedied with a plumbing snake. If this isnt the case you may have a bad air supply around your washing machine.
2. Your washing may not be ventalated properly. Washing machines have vents stocks that properly allow air flow throughout. If you machine is not vented, a inverse vacuum can be created and hold the water above the drain.
3. Finally, if these two remedies do not fix your problem, the drain hole you're using was never correctly sized. It should be simple to understand that if the drain is not sized correctly, the water influx will take longer as the drain cannot handle your machines volume of water.
A licensed plumber will be able to quickly diagnose and fix the problem. Standing water in any part of your house can cause mold problems and further damage your household.
