Category: Plumbing - Topic: Use Valves Safely

To use valves in a safe manner, the following ideas may be of value. When soldering copper pipe to a brass valve, always open the valve for proper release. ALso remember that plastic valves should not be used in steam, gas or compressed air lines ecause of the stresses on the pipe involved. Valves can be used with hot and cold fluid water based systems. Whenever turning on a main water supply valve that has been turned off, always be sure to turn the water on slowly to avoid water banging in the pipes and causing potential damage to the pipes. Never over-tighten any valve to avoid stripping the threads and ruin the valve.
