Category: Plumbing - Topic: Installing Water System Concerns
When installing a new water system involves avoiding common obvious mistakes. Be sure to avoid violating or being unaware of local building codes and restrictions. Also, use pipes which can carry enough water volume to meet the expected load; this can be done by not using pipes which are too small in diameter. If you install copper pipes, do not move or shake the newly sweated fittings if the are still hot or warm. In addition, avoid fire hazards by leaving smoldering materials around after creating fittings. Remember to attach copper to galvanized pipe with a brass or dielectric fitting between them. Threaded pipe joints should use PTFE tape or pipe compound. If you solder a pipe joint make sure the water has been drained prior to the start; drain the lines at the outside hose valves is what you want, as long as these valves are fed from the house main. And when you turn the water back on, run the outside hose valves and flush your toilets to bleed dirt and air from the lines.
