A window mounted air conditioner can
cool, circulate, filter and dehumidify the air in a room.
Units ranges in size from small units with a cooling capacity of
5,000 BTUs (enough to cool a small room) to capacities as high as 12,500 BTUs.
It is important that you choose the right size of air conditioner because
if the unit is too large the room may become damp and clammy feeling
because of high humidity, while an undersize unit will not operate effectively on
hot days.
What must be determined is the effiency rating of the unit you are thinking about buing.
To determine the efficiency of the unit, divide the watt rating into the BTU output.
Acceptable energy efficiency ratings are greater than 9.5.
The most efficient units have efficiency ratings of eleven or higher.
Check the efficiency rate, and make sure the unit is designed for the type of
window in which you plan to install it.
