Category: Air-Conditioning - Topic: Air Conditioner Coil Freezes Up
Sometimes the air conditioner freezes up and ices over during the heat of summer. You might notice water leaking on the floor. There are usually only a few main reasons this might happen.
You might have a leak somewhere in the system and should have it examined. If a leaky part, such as
leaky evaporator coil, or condensing coil, these should be replaced.
Another reason is that the evaporator coil could be clogged with dirt, mold, mildew or debris . Clogging would result in diminished air flow through the coil, and cause the coil to freeze. Make a try
at cleaning the coil- you may need to pull it out. If you can not clean the coil you might have to replace it.
Another cause of an icy coil is the relay may be going out and preventing the blower motor from coming on.
AC problems are best handled by your local air conditioning expert.
